..........Our Statement of Faith..........

Ever visit a church or church website and wonder what that church believes? Some churches stand for nothing and fall for anything. They are "tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness (Ephesians 4:14)."

The Bible Baptist Church is not ashamed to stand firmly on the Word of God as our final authority for faith and practice. Consequently, we have compiled a Statement of Faith, based on the Bible, which sets forth the beliefs that under gird the our teaching, preaching, and practice.

The Scriptures

Inspiration
We believe in the plenary, verbal inspiration by God of the Old and New Testaments; that they are without error in the original languages; and that they are the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man.

Preservation
We believe that the Scriptures have been wholly preserved through the ages by God in the Hebrew Masoretic Text for the Old Testament and the Textus Receptus Greek Text for the New Testament; and that the King James Authorized Version of the English Bible is a true, faithful, and complete translation of these two providentially preserved texts.

Authority
We believe that the Scriptures are reliable in science, history, and every other matter it discusses and that they are the supreme, final and absolute authority in all matters of faith, life, conduct, and doctrine.

The Godhead

We believe in one true God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes, perfections, and character.

God the Father

We believe that God the Father is an incorporeal, living being, invisible to man; that He is eternally self-existent, infinite, immutable, omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent; that He is perfect in holiness and righteousness, boundless in love, and that He hears and answers prayers and saves from eternal death and hell all who come to Him through Jesus Christ His Son.

God the Son

We believe in the absolute Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ; His eternal existence as God, equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit; that Jesus Christ was the incarnation of God the Son by means of the virgin birth; that He truly became man without ceasing to be God; that He led a sinless life in perfect obedience to the Father; that His vicarious death through the shedding of His blood is an atonement for the remission of our sins; that His literal, bodily resurrection assures our justification; that He ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father where He ministers as a high priest for all believers; and in His imminent, personal return to the earth.

Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 53:10-12; Matthew 1:23-25; Matthew 28; Mark 16; John 1:12,14; John 3:14-18; John 4:25-26; John 5:18; John 10:30; John 14:3,6; John 19:28; John 20:26-29; Acts 2:24-28; Acts 9:11; Romans 5:6-12; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Galatians 2:20; Galatians 4:4; Ephesians 1:7; Philippians 2:7-8; Colossians 2:9; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Timothy 3:16; Titus 2:13-14; Hebrews 5:5-10; Hebrews 6:25-28; Hebrews 9:11-28; 1 Peter 1:18-22; 1 Peter 2:21-24

God the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person, equal to the Father and the Son, and of the same substance and nature; that He restrains Satan; that He convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgement; that He bears witness to the Truth; that He glorifies and bears witness to the Son; that He is the agent of the new birth; that He baptizes all true believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sanctifying them at the moment of salvation, sealing and thus securing them unto the day of redemption; that He endues, guides, teaches, helps, and intercedes for believers; that it is the privilege and duty of all believers to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit, not by speaking in tongues and performing signs and wonders; and that He gives spiritual gifts to believers for His purpose and according to His will.

Genesis 1:2; Isaiah 48:16; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22; John 14:15-26; John 15:26; John 16:7-15; Acts 1:8; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:9-27; 1 Corinthians 2:10-13; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:7-13; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Galatians 3:22; Galatians 5:22-25; Philippians 4:30; Ephesians 5:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:7: 1 John 5:6-7

Salvation

We believe that the justification of sinners is wholly and only of grace through faith in the blood sacrifice, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ; that all who receive Him are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become the children of God; that no rite, ceremony, or work can avail one whit for the sinner's salvation or to make the believer's salvation more secure; that Jesus Christ is the only true and all-sufficient Saviour; that all who are truly saved are kept forever; that the blessings of salvation are made free to all who come to Him in repentance and faith in our Redeemer's shed blood; and that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the gospel, which rejection involves him in aggravated condemnation.

Isaiah 53; Luke 19:10; John 1:12-13; John 3:15-18; John 5:24; John 10:27-30; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 1:16-17; Romans 3:23-26; Romans 5; Romans 10:9-17; 1 Corinthians 3:11; 1 Corinthians 15:1-5; Ephesians 2:4-9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Hebrews 9:11-28; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 1 Peter 2:21-24; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 John 5:1-13

Sanctification

We believe that sanctification for the believer is immediate upon acceptance of Jesus Christ as Saviour and progressive, continuing to the end of earthly life; and that the progressive phase of sanctification is carried on in the hearts of believers by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit as the believer studies the Bible, prays, denies the flesh, and is faithful to serve God in and through a fundamental, Bible-believing church.

Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 17:17; Acts 2:41-47; Romans 8:9-14; Ephesians 5:25-27; Philippians 1:6; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17; 2 Timothy 2:15; Hebrews 10:23-25; Hebrews 12:5-16; James 4:7-10; 1 Peter 1:2

Separation

We believe that the saved are called into a life of separation from all forms of religious apostasy and compromise, worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, associations, and relationships, and that which would bring reproach upon either the Lord Jesus Christ or their Christian witness.

Romans 16:17; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; Galatians 5:16-26; Ephesians 5:11; 2 Thessalonians 3:6,14-15; 1 Timothy 6:3-5; Titus 3:10; 2 John 9-11; Revelation 18:4

The Church

We believe that the local New Testament church is composed of regenerated, baptized believers, voluntarily united together for the purpose of worship, edification, observing the ordinances, fellowship, and service; that the officers of the church are pastors and deacons, whose qualifications and duties are clearly defined in the Scriptures; that the true mission of the church is found in the fulfillment of the Great Commission to win souls and baptize converts, disciple the saints, and spread the gospel locally and abroad; that the church has the absolute right of self-government, free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations, religious or political; that the one and only superintendent of the church is the Lord Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit; that it is Scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other in contending for the faith and for the furtherance of the gospel, with each church as the sole judge of the measure and method of its cooperation; and that on all matters of membership, policy of government, discipline, and benevolence, the will of the local church is final.

Matthew 18:15-16; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:41-47; Acts 4:23,26-28; Acts 6:2-8; Acts 13:1-5; Acts 15:22-23; Acts 20:17-38; 1 Corinthians 1:2,10; 1 Corinthians 6:1-7; 1 Corinthians 11:2,20-34; 1 Corinthians12:7-30; 1 Corinthians 16:1-3; 2 Corinthians 8-10; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 4:11-16; Ephesians 5:19-23; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; Hebrews 10:23-25; 1 Peter 5:1-5

The Ordinances

We believe that there are only two Scriptural ordinances for the local church: Baptism and the Lord's Supper.

Baptism

We believe that Scriptural baptism is the immersion in water of a believer, in the name of he Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, through the authority of a local, New Testament Church; that baptism is a voluntary act of obedience to the command and example of our Lord Jesus Christ; that there is no saving grace or keeping power in baptism but that it is a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and a public testimony of our faith in Him; that Scriptural baptism is a prerequisite to membership in a local, New Testament Baptist church; and that any "baptism" other than Scriptural baptism is both unacceptable and unscriptural.

Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 1:9-10; Mark 16:16; Luke3:21-22; John 1:26-33; John 3:23; Acts 2:38-42; Acts 8:36-39; Acts 10:47-48; Acts 16:14-15,29-34; Acts 18:8; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12

The Lord's Supper

We believe that the Lord's Supper is a commemoration of the Lord's death to be observed by the local church until He comes again; that the elements to be used are unleavened bread and unfermented fruit of the vine which are symbolic of Christ's broken body and shed blood; that the Lord's Supper should be open to only born again, baptized, believers living in fellowship with and obedience to Jesus Christ; and that diligent, faithful self-examination should always precede its observance.

Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:19-20; John 6:48-63; Acts 2:41-42; 1 Corinthians 11:23-34

The Devil (Satan)

We believe that the devil is a real person; that he is a created being who was once holy and enjoyed heavenly honors; that through pride and desire to be as God, he fell from his high, holy estate and drew with him a host of angels; that he is now unholy god of this world and the evil prince of the power of the air; that he is man's great tempter, the enemy of God and man, the accuser of the saints, the author of and principle power behind all false religions and the present apostasy; and that he is destined to final defeat at the hands of Jesus Christ and to be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity.

Genesis 3:1-15; Job 1:6-12; Job 2:1-7; Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:14-17; Zechariah 3:1; Matthew 4:1-3; Matthew 13:25,37-39; Matthew 25:41; Luke 22:3-4; John 14:30; 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; Ephesians 2:2; 1 Thessalonians 3:5; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-11; 1 Peter 5:8; 2 Peter 2:4; 1 John 3:8; Jude 6; Revelation 12:7-10; Revelation 20:1-3,10

Civil Government

We believe that civil government is of divine appointment, for the interests and good order of human society; that magistrates are to be prayed for, and conscientiously honored and obeyed, except only in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Exodus 18:21-22; 2 Samuel 23:3; Daniel 3:17-18; Matthew 10:28; Matthew 22:21; Acts 4:19-20; Acts 5:29; Acts 23:5; Romans 13:1-3; Titus 3:1; 1 Peter 2:13-14,17; Revelation 19:16

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe in the literal, bodily, personal, premillenial, and imminent coming of our Lord in the air to catch away all true believers unto Himself prior to the seven year tribulation period to defeat the Antichrist and his followers, bind the devil, and set up His millennial (1000 year) kingdom on earth.

Job 19:25-27; Isaiah 9:6-7; Isaiah 11:1-10; Zechariah 14:1-11; Matthew 24:27-51; Matthew 25:13; Luke 1:32; John 14:1-3; Acts 1:11; 1 Corinthians 15:42-54; Pilippians 3:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 3:11-16; Hebrews 9:28; James 5:8; Jude 14; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 20:1-6
